Munn Salutes Blizzard 2020 Hydrant Heroes
They called it Blizzard 2020. Snowmageddon. A severe weather event. It was all these things, but most of all, the storm that hit Newfoundland in January was an opportunity for neighbours and communities to come together in the spirit of helping. People helped their neighbours dig out, shared food, and were there for each other with a helping hand.
When ordinary folks started shovelling out fire hydrants to keep their neighbourhoods safe, Munn took notice and decided to encourage the practice by offering its social media followers the chance to win a $100 gas card for stepping up. There was an immediate, enthusiastic response, with many individuals and families doing their part to keep their neighbourhoods safe in the blizzard’s aftermath and sharing their shovelled hydrant photos with Munn Insurance.
From the entries received, six lucky winners were chosen, who were presented with their prize at the Portugal Cove – St. Philip’s Fire Hall. In attendance were members of the Volunteer Fire Department and NL Association of Fire Services.
The winners were:
- Christeena Caines
- Leanne Drodge
- Clarice Legrow
- Neil Pennell
- Lindsay Rowsell
- Neil Tucker
“We decided to add an incentive for people who were exhibiting the best of what our communities have to offer during difficult times,” said C.J. Nolan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Munn Insurance. “At Munn Insurance, community spirit and keeping citizens safe are part of our philosophy, so offering this small token of appreciation seemed like the natural thing for us to do.”
At Munn Insurance, we’re dedicated to communities. We help people manage the day to day risks of life, and whenever possible, we support those who are committed to making our communities safer and better.
Thank you, hydrant heroes!
